Well Water Testing & Treatment in NC
Smells like rotten eggs? Orange stains in the toilet? Soap that won't lather? We test, identify, and install the right treatment for your water.
Well water testing and treatment is the lab analysis of a private well's water followed by the installation of filtration, softening, neutralization, or disinfection equipment to fix what the test finds. Central NC well water is most often dealing with one of five issues: iron (orange stains), hydrogen sulfide (rotten-egg smell), hardness (white scale, dry skin), low pH (blue-green stains, pinhole leaks in copper), and bacteria. Each one has a different fix; the test tells us which.
What our team handles on the call
- Lab water testing (iron, sulfur, hardness, pH, bacteria)
- Iron filters for orange-staining water
- Air-injection or chlorination for rotten-egg smell
- Water softeners for hardness
- Acid neutralizers for low pH / blue-green stains
- UV systems and shock chlorination for bacteria
How a service call works
- 1Water test
We pull a fresh sample and send it to a certified lab — or work from a recent county health department test if you have one.
- 2Interpret results
We translate iron ppm, hardness grains, pH, and any bacteria findings into plain English: what they cause and what they need.
- 3Written estimate
Treatment equipment, install, and bypass plumbing — itemized in writing. We size to your home's fixture count and gpm.
- 4Install
Filtration / softening / neutralization equipment installed at the pressure tank with bypass valves so the system can be serviced.
- 5Verify and follow up
We re-test after the system has run for a week to confirm the treatment is dialed in. Annual filter / salt service recommendations included.
What does it cost?
Water tests run $50–$150 depending on what we test for. Treatment equipment installs run $800–$3,500 depending on the issue — iron filters and water softeners are the most common.

Every job gets a written, on-site estimate before any work begins. No surprise fees.
Where we work
We test and treat well water across the Piedmont Triad. Most central NC wells have at least one treatable issue — iron and hardness are the most common.
Frequently asked
Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?
Hydrogen sulfide gas, usually produced by sulfur bacteria in the well or in the water heater. Fix is either an air-injection iron / sulfur filter or shock chlorination plus a filter, depending on severity.
What causes orange stains in toilets and tubs?
Iron in the well water. Most central NC wells have some iron; concentrations above about 0.3 ppm start staining. An iron filter at the pressure tank removes it.
Do I need a water softener?
If your water tests above 7 grains per gallon (gpg) of hardness, a softener is usually worth it — you'll see less scale on fixtures, longer water heater life, and easier-lathering soap. Most Triad wells test 8–15 gpg.
How much does well water treatment cost?
$800–$3,500 installed depending on the issue. Iron filters and softeners are the most common at $1,200–$2,800. Acid neutralizers and UV systems are cheaper at $700–$1,600.
How often should I test my well water?
The CDC and EPA recommend annual bacteria testing for any private well. Test for iron, hardness, and pH whenever water taste, color, or staining changes.
Do you warranty the work?
Yes. You get the full manufacturer warranty on the pump or tank plus our own labor warranty on the install. We answer the phone after the job is done.
